Petrified Poetry - Excavating Concrete Poems with Spencer Mason (online)
online
A slow paced workshop aimed at giving participants insight and inspiration into one of the most ubiquitous, and misunderstood, forms of poetry: the concrete poem.
We've all been in the position of a flitting cursor, aimlessly ambling single words across the page, sighing at our indecisiveness of where a line break should come in a stanza. Petrified Poetry is a gentle introduction to a style increasingly popular, and asks participants to engage with their work in a thoughtful, considered manner.
Continuing our horror-based series, we'll look at different techniques within the form to be discussed and dissected, before participants will have the chance to develop their own concrete works with confidence and alacrity.
Part of City of Poets: October Poetry Tutorials
This October, City of Poets invites you to spend four evenings exploring the stranger side of poetry.
Across four weekly tutorials, we'll examine different poetic techniques and approaches, each with its own particular way of... unsettling the page.
These are concise, creative sessions designed to get you thinking, experimenting and making. Bring your own work, bring your questions, or come with nothing but an open page.

About the Facilitator
