Poetry Please! HLSI Fundraising Event
online
The Highgate Literary and Scientific Institution is holding a fundraising event with readings from Maggie Brookes-Butt, Martyn Crucefix and Timothy Adès.
Come and join us for a wonderful evening of poetry, with friends and neighbours.
Three North London poets: all very different and equally engaging. Maggie and Martyn have for decades taught creative writing. She was a Royal Literary Fund Fellow; he won an Eric Gregory Award, the Schlegel-Tieck Prize, and many more honours. She is also a much-translated historical novelist, he is a prolific poetry blogger and reviewer, and an acclaimed translator-poet, his Rilke ‘a landmark’. Her poetry is direct and her core themes are ‘the strength of women, concern for our planet, and hope in the power of love’. His is various, remarkable, it defies description!
All three have many books of poetry. Timothy is a rhyming translator-poet with several awards: his bookstall will be at Lauderdale House on 14 September. He was vice-chairman of the Highgate Society, and edited ‘Buzz’ for four years. He is a member of HLSI, for which he devised this exciting fundraiser.
