Join us to celebrate the Launch of Gutter Issue 33!
Founded in 2009, Gutter is Scotland’s leading literary journal. Twice a year, in February and August, we publish a high-quality print magazine that features short stories, novel extracts, essays, poetry, interviews and reviews. The editors aim to showcase work by emerging and established writers from Scotland and beyond: work that will challenge, move and enliven our readers. Gutter is international in outlook, and we take pride in the diversity of our content and our contributors.
On the night we'll have readings from Shaun Murawski, David Ross Linklater, Alice Mah and Tim Tim Cheng
Shaun Murawski is a photographer based in Glasgow. His photographs are primarily candid and reportage in nature; utilising natural or available light, and with a focus on human beings and their presence or the lack thereof. His work been published throughout Scotland and internationally, and in 2010 he shot The Queen.
David Ross Linklater is a poet from Balintore, Easter Ross. He is the author of four pamphlets, most recently Star Muck Bourach (Wish Fulfillment Press, 2022). He was the winner of the 10th Ó Bhéal International Writing Competition in 2023, joint-winner of the 2022 Neil Gunn Writing Competition and received a Dewar Arts Award in 2015. He has been shortlisted for the Janet Coats Memorial Award, the Edwin Morgan Award and a New Writers Award, and holds a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of Glasgow. His work has appeared in Poetry Ireland Review, Butcher’s Dog, The Dark Horse, bath magg and Gutter. He lives in Glasgow, where he works as a screen printer.
Alice Mah is a Chinese Canadian-British writer and Professor of Urban and Environmental Studies at the University of Glasgow. Originally from a small town in northern British Columbia, she has a long-standing interest in ecology and place. Her award-winning research focuses on toxic pollution and environmental justice, the subjects of her most recent books: Petrochemical Planet and Plastic Unlimited.
Tim Tim Cheng is the author of Tapping At Glass (VERVE, 2023), which was a Poetry Society Book of the Year and shortlisted for The Kavya Prize. Her debut collection The Tattoo Collector (Nine Arches Press, 2024) is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. She co-edited Where Else: An International Hong Kong Poetry Anthology (Verve, 2023). She was born and raised in Hong Kong, and is currently based between London and Glasgow. She is a member of the Southbank Centre New Poets Collective, an Ignite Fellow with Scottish Book Trust, and a mentee of Roddy Lumsden Memorial Mentorship Scheme. In her work, she explores the relationship between languages, places, the body, and class. She often collaborates with musicians and translates between English and Chinese. Her most recent project is to develop a short poetry-film. She also curates literary events with Red Bean Poetry and co-hosts a Cantonese podcast on Anglophone poetry. timtimcheng.com
