Online Writing Workshop: Writing Grief with Denise Saul
online
“the room is no longer between us.”
– Denise Saul, The Room Between Us
Join The Poetry Society for a workshop with Denise Saul exploring how to write the many faces of grief with clarity, restraint, and emotional precision. Guided by Denise, you will discover, read and write poems that approach grief without sentimentality, through the language of the body and of the everyday. Drawing on multifarious examples from contemporary poetry, you’ll explore how loss of many different kinds can be expressed, and be supported to write new work of your own that engages grief with subtlety and formal control.
Denise Saul’s debut collection The Room Between Us (Pavilion / Liverpool University Press, 2022) was shortlisted for TS Eliot poetry prize 2022, longlisted for Jhalak prize 2023 and a Poetry Book Society Summer Recommendation 2022. She is the author of two pamphlets: White Narcissi (flipped eye, 2007), a Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice; and House of Blue (Rack Press, 2012), a PBS Pamphlet Recommendation. Denise is a past winner of The Poetry Society’s Geoffrey Dearmer Prize. She has judged the National Poetry Competition and TS Eliot awards.
