CPF: Slant Storytelling in Poetry
online
Slant Stories. Narrative poetry and how to tell it slant.
Discover the art of narrative poetry in this online workshop. Narrative poetry fuses the storytelling components of fiction with the cadence, language, imagery, and symbolism of poetry.
And in this workshop, you will learn how to tell a story - but tell it slant - ie, with vision, depth, and originality; and in ways that will startle and surprise your reader. You will take inspiration from writers who have approached their theme head-on, yet have equally added elements that surprise and even shock.
You will look at writers such as Jacob Foley, Ocean Vuong, and Sharon Olds – all of whom have avoided the obvious and prosaic, even when writing narrative poems, and instead have made allusions, played with language, and delved into the subconscious – in intoxicating and charged ways.
You will receive writing triggers, a mini tutorial and feedback on your work.
Anna Saunders is the author of Communion, (Wild Conversations Press), Struck, (Pindrop Press) Kissing the She Bear, (Wild Conversations Press), Burne Jones and the Fox, Ghosting for Beginners, Feverfew, The Prohibition of Touch, Eurydice in the Ruined House, (all from Indigo Dreams).
Feverfew has been described as ‘rich with obsession, sensuousness and potency’ by Ben Ray, and as ‘a beautiful and necessary collection’ by Penny Shuttle.
