Broken Sleep Books are a working-class, small, innovative press, who publish a range of poetry and prose, from a range of writers. Our primary focus is in increasing access to the arts, in ensuring more people are able to engage with creativity regardless of their socioeconomic status. We particularly wish to dismantle the gentrification of creative arts, and we encourage more working-class, LGBTQ+, and POC writers to submit. Politically we are left wing, and have no interest in misogynists, racist, sexists, the alt-right, or dickheads in general.

We are open for wildcard submissions until 28th February. This is our submission for any books that don't fit standard submission windows. Send us anything and we'll consider it!

We have no definitive preference for what are looking for, we enjoy a variety of genres and styles and consider anything. If it's good enough for us we'll take it. We are fine with previously published work in a book, but it isn't essential, and should preferably not be more than 50% of the full MS. We are happy to look at translations - but keep in mind that we do facing-page and would require both the original language and the translated language.

Any submissions sent to aaron@brokensleepbooks.com will be discarded without being read. We hope to respond to all submissions within 8-10 weeks of the closing date.

We are sorry but we are unable to give feedback to any submissions we don't take on, this is simply because we get so many submissions that we just don't have the time. You can, however, use the editorial service to pay for feedback if you wish.

SUBMISSION WINDOWS:

1st January - 28th February = Open for submissions of wildcard books (books that don't fit with our other submission windows)

1st April - 31st May = Open for submissions of poetry collections (40 pages+)

1st July - 31st August = Open for submissions of non-fiction prose pamphets (up to 150 pages)

1st October - 30th November = Open for submissions of poetry pamphlets (up to 40 pages)

Format:

• Please send as a Word document or PDF. Please do not put your work in the body of the email or send .pages, links to websites or file transfer sites - these will be deleted.

• Size 10 font for main text.

• Simultaneous submissions ok - but please indicate if this is the case in your email.

• All submissions considered, regardless of location.

• Collaborative submissions are considered.

• Wildcard submissions are intended for all books that don't fit into the other window specifications.

Submissions are made via email.

Only a very small percentage of people who submit actually buy a book from us. If everybody who submitted bought a book it'd be a massive boost to us. Please consider buying a book so you know what we produce and how we publish, though this will not affect your chances at all.
