Website Relaunch

27th of March 2025

The PIG website got an upgrade! For the casual visitor, the difference is probably barely noticeable: a new picture here, a different list format there - certainly nothing to write home about. But for the PIG team, this website relaunch has been weeks in the making and an important step in securing the long-term viability of PIG.

We changed from the previous WordPress site to a custom framework. This gave us more autonomy to pick and choose the different tools and services we are using. We managed to completely avoid the reach of the big US tech giants and are now using almost exclusively open-source systems. At the same time, we were able to implement a backend system that makes it a lot easier for us to maintain the site, post updates and create new entries for our event and opportunities database.

On the user experience side, we have made some improvements on how the website is displayed on mobile devices. We have also introduced a brand new search function that lets you sift through the entire website content. There are now also easier filter options and quicker ways to view the events or opportunities according to different categories or locations. This should make it a lot easier for visitors to navigate the site and find what they are looking for.

PIG is extremely lucky to have the support of Frodo Podschwadek and his small web development venture The Mechanical Butterfly Ltd. Without him, this whole project would not have been possible. Fortunately, he has assured us of his continued backing, so you can look forward to more UX improvements in the future.
