The Menu
The Menu is a new online space for flash fiction, prose poetry, hybrid work and strange little things that probably shouldn’t work but somehow do. Submissions now open.
The Menu is a new online space for very short fiction, launching this autumn by Durty Beanz.
We’re currently open for submissions and are interested in flash fiction, micro fiction, prose poetry, hybrid work, fragments, strange little monologues, and things that probably shouldn’t work but somehow do. Anything up to 1000 words.
Food is a good starting point. So is art, technology, boredom, supermarkets, shame, labour, salamanders, super soakers, weird jobs, Monster Munch, grief, takeaways, Street Fighter characters, loneliness, toilet duck, Brahms, smelly foyers, scratchcards and writing itself.
We particularly want to publish work that feels alive and takes risks formally or tonally. Funny things that become sad. Sad things that become funny. Writing that surprises itself.
The Menu is a natural extension of the ideas and sensibilities we’ve been exploring through our work for quite a while now, but focused exclusively on written fiction. The best way to get a feel for it all is to have a look around our website and socials.
Rolling submissions are now open.
Guidelines:
– Up to 1000 words
– Flash fiction, micro fiction, prose poetry and hybrid forms welcome
– Previously unpublished work only
– Simultaneous submissions absolutely fine
– One piece at a time please
– See website for AI policy
Please send submissions as a Word document (.doc or .docx), double spaced, to:

We aim to respond within 4 weeks.
At the moment, we unfortunately can’t pay contributors. We know this isn’t ideal. As soon as this can change, it will. Writers selected for publication will appear on The Menu section of the Durty Beanz website and will also be featured across our social media platforms.
