Cripping Culture Community Call Out
Be part of a national project that will collect memories from people involved in the Disability Arts movement, capture its untold stories and shed new light on key moments in its history.
Disability Arts Online (DAO) has launched an open call for contributions for national project 'Cripping Culture: A Journey into Disability Arts Heritage'.
DAO would like to hear about the most significant disability arts projects and events that you’ve been involved in or experienced. We want to know how they contributed to both your life and the Disability Arts movement. These will play an important part in the stories told through the Cripping Culture project, saving our heritage for future generations.
This is your chance to safeguard the history of disability arts as part of a nationally significant project.
WHAT CAN YOU SUBMIT?
Your contribution could be about an event, show or exhibition you attended, something you read, an artist you met, an organisation you were involved with or anything else related to disability arts. This could be submitted in video, audio, text or photo format.
Contributions will be reviewed and used to inform our research for the project. They may also be used as part of our interactive digital timeline. If this is the case, we will be in touch to discuss your submission further.
WHO IS THIS CALL OUT FOR?
You might be an artist, writer, producer, performer, curator, musician, activist or audience member. It doesn’t matter who you are, as long as you have a story to tell that involves disability arts in the UK.
It is important that we capture stories and events from all regions of the UK that may previously have been missed to celebrate the vast breadth of disability arts activity that has occurred across time. We are especially keen to hear from people who are part of the global majority, have intersectional experiences of disability, and/or can tell stories from regions that are currently underrepresented in collections or narratives.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR CONTRIBUTION
- We can accept submissions in text, video, audio and photos that help illustrate your memory.
- Please don’t submit artworks.
- You can tell your story in English or British Sign Language.
- If you have multiple stories about different events or projects, please submit them separately.
- There is no limit on how many contributions you can submit.
