SEXTET Issue V: We Fear Nae Evil
sextet sex·tet /sɛkˈstɛt/ noun
a composition of six voices performing together
We welcome submissions for the fifth quarterly issue of SEXTET, We Fear Nae Evil, to be published online in tandem with Six Foot Gallery’s 2026 Autumn Open Call. If your work is selected for inclusion you will also have the option of sending us a recording of your piece, to be played in the gallery space for the duration of the exhibition.
Wi’ tippeny, we fear nae evil;
Wi’ usquabae, we’ll face the devil!
—Tam O’ Shanter by Rabbie Burns (1791)
We fear nae evil, and we invite you to be fearless with us.
For this seasonal open call we’re going back to our roots, exploring the strange and magical stories of Scottish folklore; the ones passed down for generations and still powerful enough to be told again. We invite you to send us your visions of traditional tales, fear, myth, and magic: give us your Cutty Sarks, your brownies and bogles, chapman billies and drouthy neebors; your selkies, banshees, kelpies, and cailleachs; your uncanny landscapes, stone circles, rocks, and rivers; your hagstones, talismans, rowan, and heather.
We welcome poetry, flash fiction, short prose, experimental writing, hybrid forms, creative non-fiction, visual poetry, and work that resists easy categorisation. Email us three pieces maximum.

SEXTET is a Glasgow-based online literary magazine run in collaboration with Six Foot Gallery. Drawing from the gallery’s commitment to supporting both emerging and established artists, we extend this ethos into the literary realm. We imagine SEXTET to be a composition of diverse voices; writers in conversation with each other, with artists, and with readers. Distinct but working in harmony.
Glasgow is rooted in a history of storytellers and creatives coming together and carving out new spaces for artistic dialogue. We hope SEXTET will continue this tradition and provide a platform for writers to experiment, take risks, and share their work with the wider creative community.
