Sacred Land Reflections - Samhain
"Sacred Land Reflections" is a volunteer led, quarterly publication series exploring the mystical thresholds where dualities dissolve into transcendent unity. Rooted in the Celtic wheel of the year's four cross-quarter days, each volume examines the sacred "in-between" spaces; those liminal moments where opposing forces merge to birth something entirely new.
The series operates on the principle that the most profound truths emerge not in fixed states but in transitional spaces: where death births life, potential becomes manifest, abundance transforms through sacrifice, and darkness holds the seeds of light.
Submissions are now open for our SAMHAIN edition — "Annwn — the Otherside."
Samhain is the year's most significant threshold, when the veil between worlds grows thin. In the Mabinogion the Otherside is Annwn; Pwyll reaches it by riding into a wood he has hunted all his life. This volume explores how consciousness expands when we release the need to know, how death — literal and metaphorical — serves life, and how embracing mystery opens us to deeper wisdom.
Content focus: working with the unknown, death as teacher and ally, ancestral wisdom, the creative power of darkness, practices for honouring mystery and navigating uncertainty with trust. Any other symbolic interpretation on the essence of SAMHAIN will also be welcome.
We are looking for work that emerges from sustained practice, serious study, or deep creative engagement with these territories. We seek contributors who understand that this work serves not only intellectual curiosity but the deeper need to maintain living connection with the more-than-human world and the intelligence that moves through it. This work assumes familiarity with the deeper currents, whether through traditional training, academic scholarship, artistic practice, or years of work in these areas.
