Pala Press is a small publisher. Its issues bring together essays, poetry, fiction and visual art around a loose theme.

We are seeking submissions for our eighth issue, which will be themed on the notion of FUTURITY.

This issue is an experiment in sitting with the future, in a time where it is difficult to optimistically cast imagination forward. As we are bombarded by news media that erode our capacity for hope, thinking of the future can feel impossible. How are we to hold on to an ability to look forwards?

This issue collects an effort to cast into the future: on micro or macro scales, in close and personal focus or sweeping speculation, with lightness and humour or with gravity.

You might pick up on notions of prediction/premonition/divination/prophecy, hope, fantasy/dreams/wishes/spells, patterns/repetition, near futures or deep time, speculative fictioning, imagined selves/changing bodies, parenthood/pregnancy/matrescence/future generations/birth, germination, correspondence/calls and echoes, activism, anything else that the notion of futurity suggests to you.

We accept essaying, poetry, fiction, and hybridised forms–we want Pala to offer a testing ground for new work and ideas, and as such accept and encourage work that challenges disciplinary boundaries. There is no minimum word count, with a maximum count of around 2000 words.
