Common Condition
"Common condition" is a new zine about disability and a celebration of the wider disability community and what connects us.
I need artwork, illustrations, collages, crafts, articles, essays, poetry, quotes, photography and more, from disabled, chronically ill, mad, and neurodivergent people.
Prompts/ideas: What does the disability community mean to you? Whats good about it? Have you made friends/partners on here? What gets misunderstood about it? What do you wish non disabled people knew? What are your favourite pages or websites? Is the community accessible? Do you have a fundraiser you want to uplift? Have you been to events like NAIDEX? Benefits of the internet over real life? Frustrations or things you'd change? If you want to submit something but don't have ideas/work - fill out the form and I'll send you a task/brief.
Submission Guidelines: You can submit work you have created and shared online previously. Please don't submit work that was featured in or commissioned by other zines or publications. If you want to make or write something SPECIFICALLY for this; please let me know your ideas/topics. I am open to all ideas/perspectives but want to avoid repetition. Submission form linked in my bio.
Who can submit: ANYONE! can submit. The zine is made BY disabled people FOR disabled people ABOUT disabled people. I will not ask you to prove you are disabled. Disabled can include physical conditions, mental illness, neurodivergence & learning disabilities. You do not need to be an established artist/ writer/activist. I especially want to uplift new creatives, queer, BIPOC or marginalised groups. All submissions must be in English, but anyone in the world can submit. You must be aged 18 or over.

Photography: Any photography must be your own. For people/groups you must have consent from every identifiable person in the shot for their photo to be used. They must be adults. Credit will be given to the photographer rather than the individuals in the photo. General photos may be edited or have filters over them by me to fit the style of the zine. You can opt out of this. You can submit photos you are proud of OR just casual selfies with friends!
Rights & Payment: You will not receive any upfront payment or royalties for having work featured in this zine. The budget for making this zine is currently £O. The editor/creator is working for free. There is no cost to submit your work. Everyone who is featured will receive a free digital copy and a discount on a physical version IF it gets printed. Your work will be credited, and you will retain all intellectual property rights to your own work. A submission does not guarantee your work will be featured.
