SEXTET Issue IV: Melting Point
sextet sex·tet /sɛkˈstɛt/ noun
a composition of six voices performing together
We welcome submissions for the fourth quarterly issue of SEXTET, Melting Point. Our fourth edition will be published online in tandem with Six Foot Gallery’s 2026 Summer Open Call. If your work is selected for inclusion you will also have the option of sending us a recording of your piece, to be played in the gallery space.
Glasgow and its people come alive in the summer. We transform in the heat: a city of dynamic ideas, cultures, and communities turned to gold as the light finally touches us. As the sun beats down it morphs our mood, our expressions, and our relation to the city itself.
While days grow long and shorts shorten, we invite you to explore writing as an alchemical process; the heat of summer as an artistic catalyst. We’re interested in transformation in all its forms, be that bodily, emotional, material, environmental, cultural, magical, or the strange. Consider long days and hot pavements, midsummer rituals, Jungian archetypes and The Fool’s Journey. You might think about the narrative as a site of change where memory, language, image, and experience are broken down, remade, augmented, or turned into something that glitters.
We welcome poetry, flash fiction, short prose, experimental writing, hybrid forms, creative non-fiction, visual poetry, and work that resists easy categorisation. Whether through subject, language, texture, rhythm, or mood, we want writing that feels radiant, volatile, or alive with possibility. Email us three pieces maximum.

SEXTET is a Glasgow-based online literary magazine run in collaboration with Six Foot Gallery. Drawing from the gallery’s commitment to supporting both emerging and established artists, we extend this ethos into the literary realm. We imagine SEXTET to be a composition of diverse voices; writers in conversation with each other, with artists, and with readers. Distinct but working in harmony.
Glasgow is rooted in a history of storytellers and creatives coming together and carving out new spaces for artistic dialogue. We hope SEXTET will continue this tradition and provide a platform for writers to experiment, take risks, and share their work with the wider creative community.
